Plan for an amazing adventure, but be prepared for the worst case! Which means considering;
Our favourite kind of adventure is finding a secluded beach camp. We love the challenge of getting into the harder spots so that we get that beautiful campsite to ourselves. We'll always look for a beach camp that has waves out the front for surfing & some fun 4WD tracks around.
Our most frustrating challenge before KAON was storing and accessing our Maxtrax. As we are usually a venturing around the beach, we face a lot of soft sandy tracks and we always needed Maxtrax on hand. With the KAON Maxtrax Mount, we were able to have them easily accessible on the roof without the worry of them going missing as they are lockable and secure.
Our favourite product would have to be the Folding Maxtrax mount as it allows us to have our recovery gear easily accessible and lockable. They also fold down flat so that we can store gear on our roof when we are not carrying Maxtrax.
Our second favourite product is the side mirror mount for the aerial. We love that this moves the aerial off the bull bar and you gives you clear driving vision.
Meet Cam and Tiffany, the duo behind Wild Touring, embarking on family caravan adventures across WA's campsites, Cam's all about the beach, while Tiff opts for bush camping. Staying true to the nature of an Outsider Family, they're all about spending time together and making memories that'll last a lifetime. Before KAON, space inside their LC300 was scarce, especially with two kids and their dog, Percy.

It’s equally important that you know how to use all of that gear!
Our favourite adventures are the ones we can do together as a family!
We love to load up the caravan and head off somewhere quiet. We’re really lucky in WA to have heaps of beautiful campsites at our disposal.
Tiff would say her favourite camping is bush camping, but I (Cam) prefer to be on the beach!
We’ve recently moved from a dual cab ute with a canopy and endless storage, into a new 300 series LandCruiser wagon. We absolutely love the new car, but before KAON we found it difficult to find the space to fit all of our gear!
KAON has given us heaps of really handy storage options and allowed us to fit all the gear we need, in easily accessible locations around the car.
Our favourite KAON product would have to be the overhead storage shelf. It’s actually really shocked us just how much camping and recovery gear we have managed to fit up there. In what was totally wasted space previously!
From the beach to the bush, James is somewhat of a weekend adventurer with his Jimny. He values being spontaneous and sustainable so needs to rely on his gear when off-road or when he’s a long way from home. Embracing the nature of a Free-Spiritied Outsider, he’s all about sharing these adventures with mates, family and fellow Outsiders and documenting the journey.

Don't be afraid to go without a plan - Many of my favourite trips have been spur-of-the-moment decisions, pointing at a map and just getting out there. Sometimes you get so bogged down with the research that you miss the hidden gems along the way.
Buy it once - Not only is it more friendly for the environment, but it's better for your pocket too! Better gear might be more of an investment to start with, but it's far better than buying cheap items more often and not being able to trust them and needing to dispose of them.
A quick last-minute trip away. While I do love a planned trip, I love the feeling of a spontaneous trip away where it’s chaotic and all unknown; it always leads to expected finds and hidden gems. Plus, it’s perfect for a setup like mine where all of the gear is ready to go and I can just head out whenever I want.
Lack of functional storage. The Jimny has a decent amount of space, but you need to maximise storage; items like the shelf are perfect for it. Bonus for items like the rear door table and kitchenette as they are a no-compromise upgrade and allow Jimny owners to get all of the benefits which is unusual because normally we compromise because of the size and space in the Jimny. Either that or we need to make custom items based on something made for a larger vehicle.
Without a doubt, the rear door table. This upgrade changes the way I camp; it’s the perfect upgrade given it doesn’t take any extra space and isn’t heavily compromised like other compact items. Being a permanent install means I don’t need to worry about packing more gear and can just get out and go. I love a good camp cookout, so when the Kitchenette was released I knew I needed to upgrade my setup.

When it comes to choosing KAON fitments for their Prado 150, Jessie and Lachlan are all about boosting performance, saving space, and protecting their car’s precious parts. Combining engine guards with tow points and they are ready for anything the open road throws at them.
Our favourite type of adventure is the last-minute ones—the kind where you decide at 8 pm on a Friday and have the car packed and on the road by 1 am. We choose a location and explore as much as we can in the short time we usually have. We find that not having a schedule makes the adventure more enjoyable. We don’t feel rushed and can really take in each location we come across.
Due to our adventurous spirit, we often tackle tracks that most people with stock 4WDs wouldn't even consider. Unfortunately, this ambitious approach led to the destruction of our stock bash plates, leaving the most vulnerable parts of our Prado unprotected. Another challenge we encountered was frequently overheating our transmission during weekend beach trips. If we drove in boggy sand for more than 10 minutes, we had to stop and allow our transmission to cool down before continuing any further, sometimes taking over 30 minutes!
