Product Update – Y62 Standalone Shelf (KS0302)

We’ve made some improvements to the Standalone Rear Roof Shelf to suit the Nissan Patrol Y62.

This new design will be available at no cost to any past purchasers who wish to update their shelf. We recommend watching the video below.

Why We've Redesigned our Y62 Standalone Shelf (KS0302)

Last year, we revised our Standalone Rear Roof Shelf for the LC200 to incorporate side support panels. We did this after customer feedback that indicated there was an opportunity to improve the product's performance in more demanding conditions. Over the last 12 months, we have reviewed our entire range. After customer feedback and careful consideration, we have revised the Standalone Shelf for the Y62 to incorporate this Side Molle Support Panels system.

For those who like to tackle more demanding trips, we have designed Small Side Molle Panels as a more rugged solution, for additional peace of mind. These are available at no cost to any past purchasers of the Standalone Shelf.

We’ve also designed the Large Side Molle Panels as an alternative upgrade option, providing the same functionality with additional storage options and benefits. Should you prefer them, they are available at a discounted upgrade rate to past purchasers, at $200.00 with Free Shipping within Australia (RRP $350.00 + shipping).

Lastly, we know that for some, Molle Panels are not ideal. For those customers, we are also offering a Cargo Divider upgrade at no cost to any past-purchasers of the Standalone Shelf.

International Customers: The Small Molle Panels and Cargo Dividers are available at no cost. The upgrade to the Large Side Molle Panels is AU$175.00 (exc GST) plus shipping.

FAQ

I don’t want to install the Small Molle Panels, is it required?

The Small Side Molle Panels is not required for the shelf to be functional, and you can continue to use the shelf without it. We recommend the panels if you are planning on tackling more demanding trips in tougher conditions for extended periods of time.

I have decided I don’t want to run the shelf anymore, what are my options?

If you would prefer, we can issue you a refund for the shelf.

To receive a refund, you will need to uninstall your shelf and simply send us the two Handle Brackets. Once received, we’ll process a refund for the full cost of the shelf plus the postage cost to send the brackets to us.

  1. Click here log into your account and click on Resolution Centre.
  2. Open a New Dispute.
  3. Click Item Dispute.
  4. Select Y62 Standalone Shelf Refund and select the order where you purchased the Standalone Shelf originally.
  5. Dispute the Selected item on your order. If you only ordered the Standalone Shelf, dispute the entire order. Click Continue and this will lodge your dispute.
  6. Uninstall your shelf and mail the Handle Brackets to:
KAON 4x4, 58 Antimony Street, Carole Park 4300 QLD
  7. Once the brackets are received, we’ll be in touch to facilitate a refund.

Once received, we’ll process a refund for the full cost of the shelf plus the postage cost to send the brackets to us.

What do I do if I don’t have proof of purchase?

No worries. Please take a photo of your shelf insitu, and include a piece of paper with your name written on it within the photo.

How do the Side Panels work with the curtain airbags?

Both the Small and Large Side Molle Panels are designed to allow unobstructed deployment of the factory curtain airbags. That said, we do not recommend any passengers ride in the third-row seats with either of these products installed.

What is required to mount the Side Molle Panel?

Installing both the Small and Large Side Molle Panels is easy. No drilling is required, the panels create additional support by being tensioned in the third-row cupholders. You will need to remove your Standalone Shelf, as the Molle Panel Brackets are layered underneath. Comprehensive instructions will be provdied.

What happens if I decide to remove the Side Panels at a later date?

Easy – the install of both Side Molle Panels is fully reversible.

Is the shelf still load rated to 10kg?

We still load rate the shelf to 10kg without the Side Panels, and are confident that the Y62 mounts will carry this weight, regardless. However, there is a slight risk Rear Grab Handles brackets fracturing under heavy loads or in harsh driving conditions.

How do I check if my shelf is okay?

There will be discernible sideways movement in the handle attachment point. If desired, you can check under the headlining, but due to the complexities of this and potential for damage to airbags, we do not recommend it.

My shelf feels fine, is there anything else I should do?

Not really. The shelves are still functional with the existing mounting points, and the safety, performance and usability of your car remain uncompromised regardless.

Is this a common issue?

No. We have reviewed our entire range, and outlined that the Y62 was the only other vehicle requiring this solution. Of the hundreds of Y62 shelves we have sent to customers, only a couple of customers provided feedback that indicated this was an issue. But our philosophy is that everything we make, we make to last. So, we’ve decided to update our design to reflect improved performance and longevity.
